Amazing! You've just created your first notebook!

<aside> 💡 Want to jot down some quick notes without going through the formal steps to create a notebook? Just choose the large New... button > QuickNote, or double-tap the New... button. This creates a temporary one-page, coverless notebook in the paper template you last chose. Once done, you can choose to save it, move it to a folder, merge it with an existing notebook, or discard it.

Step 2: Take notes!

Use the note-taking tools

Although GoodNotes ships with a variety of tools to suit the user's diverse note-taking needs, you actually need to know just one handy tool or two for your simple notes. For more details about these tools, please check out the corresponding articles linked to the tool names below.

The Pen Tool: Select it and write on the page with your finger or Apple Pencil (recommended) just as you would do with a pen on paper.

The Highlighter Tool: Use it to highlight noteworthy details in your notes.

The Shape Tool: Use it to draw a rough line, curve, or shape, and get a perfect one.

The Eraser Tool: Use it to erase handwriting, highlightings, or shapes. Note that the tool can't erase other objects, like images.

The Lasso Tool: Use this tool to draw a loop around some content to select it for moving, copying, re-coloring, and so on.

The Image Tool: Use it and tap on the page to insert images from Photos or Camera.
