What It Does

The Laser Pointer is used to focus attention on some parts of your notes while you're presenting them. It's useful for a variety of purposes. For example:

How to Use It

Step 1: Share your GoodNotes screen

This step is actually optional but the Laser Pointer is most useful when you're sharing your GoodNotes screen. There are two ways you can share your screen.

Screen Sharing (or Screen Broadcasting)

This kind of screen sharing lets you "broadcast" everything on your screen, including notifications, to another app. For example, you might be in a video conferencing app on your device and want to share your screen to the other attendees. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Join a meeting with your video conferencing app, e.g. Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams.
  2. Locate and tap a button/icon in that app that says something like Share Content or Share Screen.
  3. Tap Start Broadcast.
  4. Switch to GoodNotes to have its screen shared.

Screen Mirroring via AirPlay

Screen Mirroring allows projecting your device screen (that is, mirroring it) onto an external screen that supports AirPlay, which is Apple's wireless communication protocol. Typical AirPlay receivers include Apple TV, Macs and some Smart TVs. By sharing your screen via this protocol, GoodNotes enters what's called Presentation Mode, which gives you more control, like hiding part of the screen you don't want to share with the audience.

For screen mirroring instructions, see Presentation Mode.
