Supported formats

Goodnotes is capable of importing a variety of file formats that can be annotated:

• PDF

• Image (.jpg, .png)

• Goodnotes document (.goodnotes)

• (Apple only) Goodnotes backup (.goodnotes.zip). See (Apple only) Cloud & Backup.

• (Apple only) Comma- or Tab-Separated Values file (.csv, .tsv). The app can import a file in this format to create a study set. See ‣.

• (iOS and iPadOS only) Word (.doc, .docx) and PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)

  Note that while Goodnotes can import Word and PowerPoint files directly on iPadOS/iOS, it may produce better results if you import PDF versions of these files instead. If you do import Word or PowerPoint files, Goodnotes will internally convert them to PDFs, but the final formatting may not be as accurate.

Import files as new documents

Import from within the app

1. In the Documents tab of the Library View, open the folder you want to import a file into.
2. Choose New > Import.
3. Select a file.

Goodnotes Pro users can import files directly from a cloud storage.

Apple

1. Choose +New > Import from Cloud Storage.

   

   Import from Cloud Storage feature: before any cloud storages are connected

2. Choose a supported cloud storage > Connect, and authorize. Once done, you’ll see Import and Disconnect buttons under the cloud storage entry.

3. Choose Import and select a file.

4. The next time you import, simply choose +New and select a connected cloud storage at the bottom:

Android, Windows, and Web

1. Choose +New and select a supported cloud storage at the bottom*:*

   

2. Connect to the cloud storage if you haven’t.

3. Choose a file from that cloud storage to import.

(Apple only) Import from an external app

1. Switch to the other app, then do either of the following:
   • To import one file, tap to open it.
   • To import multiple files, select them from the list of files (if supported by the external app, indicated by the presence of a Select icon).
2. Tap Share (or Open In..., Send a copy, or the like) in that app.
