What It Does
The Image Tool lets you insert images anywhere on the page easily!
How to Use It
With the tool selected, you can do any of the following:
Insert an image from Photos
- Tap anywhere on the page, and browse for the image you want to add in the pop-up window. Please note you will need to make sure Photos access is enabled for Goodnotes for this tool to work.

Insert an image from the Files app

Tap anywhere on the page, then select Insert from... and browse for the image.

💡 You can also tap the Image Tool again (or tap it twice if it's not already selected) and browse for an image, which will be inserted in the center of the page. You can then drag to move the selected image to a desired location.

Insert a Camera photo

Tap the Camera icon in the contextual section:

Take a photo, then select either Retake or Use Photo.

Since the photo is inserted in the center of the page, you can drag the photo to a desired location.
Please note that Camera access must be granted before Goodnotes can use this feature. This will pop-up the first time Goodnotes tries to access the camera.
Edit an inserted image/photo
To select an image to edit it, do any of the following:
- With the Image Tool selected, tap the image with your finger or Apple Pencil.
- With any tool selected, finger-tap the image, or long-press it and choose Edit.
Once the image is selected, you can do any of the following:
Move the image
Cut / Copy / Duplicate the image
- Choose Cut / Copy / Duplicate from the context menu.
Delete the image
- Tap the Delete icon in the top-left corner of the image.
Scale / Rotate the image
- Drag on the Resize handle in the bottom-right corner of the image.

💡 You can also move, cut, copy, delete, scale, or rotate an image with the Lasso Tool.

Resize the image horizontally / vertically
Crop the image
- Tap on the image again, then choose Crop.
- Adjust any of the blue circles to crop a rectangular section of it, or choose "Freehand" and draw a closed "crop area".
- Tap Done.
Share an inserted image
- Tap on the image twice, choose Share. From there, you can select any option you like from the Share sheet.
Create an element from an inserted image
An element is a piece of content that you save for reuse across pages.
- Tap on the image twice, choose Add Element, and choose a collection to add it to. See Elements Tool.
